Avant Garde Nutcracker Doll Cake Makes an Encore

Corinna Raznikov of Raznikov Photography was kind to blog about us on her site: http://www.raznikovphotography.com/

Corinna's flawless tablescape set off her red and pink "JosieCat" cake just beautifully!

Here are some of the gorgeous pictures she took!

Red Carpet Sweet 16

This Red Carpet Themed Sweet 16 Cake was a real hit. Red, Black, Silver and Gold colors filled the party venue. The birthday girl loved our "Happy New Year Cake" and we transformed it into a Three Tiered Sweet 16 star-topped wonder! The metallic gold star topper, reminiscent of the stars on Hollywood Blvd was a great touch.
Each piece of confetti was hand dusted in metallic gold and silver. The lettering is a flood-out 3-D design, each word is a single piece of icing and they sit on the ledge of each cake.

We delivered this Sweet 16 Cake to the Elks Hall in Middleboro Massachusetts and the flavors matched the party colors: separate tiers of vanilla butter cake and red velvet cake all with vanilla buttercream.

Laptop Computer Cake

We created this 3-D laptop computer cake for a 70th birthday party. The granddaughter of the birthday boy is from California and ordered the cake as a surprise for her grandfather who loves to play solitare on his new laptop!

We personalized this computer cake with a "PaPa" logo and we added a DVD player and inputs and a full keyboard. The screen included an "Incoming Message" from Danielle, "Happy Birthday Papa" with small envelopes and stars.

The cake flavor- his favorite- vanilla cake with chocolate mousse filling.

Double Bows and Presents

Here are Jessica's Bridal Shower and Wedding Cakes.

The Bridal Shower Cake featured another bow- only this time on a very sweet gift box of devilish chocolate cake with truffle filling!

The Wedding Cake featured white fondant with double bows at the base of each tier. Her linens, in a beautiful white and black brocade, were a perfect match to her the shiny satin ribbon. The monogram script topper, was handcast from sugarpaste.

Pink Shopping Bag w/Stilleto

Jessica is a great customer of ours, we have done her bridal shower, wedding and now a very special birthday cake. She always has fantastic taste!

This stunningly superb stilleto was accompanied by a fushia pink zebra shopping bag filled with sugarpaste "tissue paper" in silver, pink, & black. A pearl necklace peeked out of the bag along with tiny edible pearls and edible glitter! There is nothing like fushia pink, black, silver, and animal print all tied into a fashionable cake! The cake was our vanilla butter cake with chocolate ganache buttercream filling.

A White Wedding Cake @ Kittansett Club Marion, MA

It isn't too often that a simply white wedding cake crosses our path at The Artisan Kitchen.

Our signature bow, tiny daisies, and a simply elegant crosshatch pattern covered this cake for a fabulous wedding at Kittansett Club on Buzzards Bay in Marion Massachusetts. The three-loop bow, made to look more casual (Margaret, the bride, called it "floppy") made quite a statement. The cake featured lemon cake with altnernating layers of raspberry marmalade and lemon buttercream filling.

Buttercream Scroll Wedding Cake @ Kinsale Inn

We created this three tiered buttercream cake for a small casual wedding at The Kinsale Inn in Mattapoisett, MA. The small scrolls and simple fresh flower topper was based on a cake featured on TheKnot.com. The cake offered guests a choice of vanilla cake or devilish chocolate cake all with vanilla italian buttercream.

The Kinsale Inn is a historic, colonial inn (formerly The Mattapoisett Inn)and provides an intimate setting for small weddings and private parties. Visit the Kinsale Inn website www.kinsaleinn.com or call to speak with their event coordinator Matthew.

Bridal Shower Cakes: Tiffany Boxes and Brides

What goes together better than Tiffany Boxes and Brides?!?

Weddings are in the air on the South Coast of Massachusetts, Cape Cod, and The Islands and bridal showers have been the theme. One cake, our Tiffany Box Stack Cake made it all the way to Newburgh, NY. A very bumpy ride down I-84! The other is a bride. She matched invitation to the event. This cake only scooted over to Marion, MA at a waterfront home on Sippican Harbor.

The Tiffany Box cake was vanilla butter and devilish chocolate with vanilla buttercream. The Bride Cake was alternating layers of chocolate and vanilla with Oreos and Cream filling and Raspberry Marmalade, YUM!

Congratulations Cristina!

Graduation cakes can be created in a variety of colors and styles. Our most popular has a gumpaste diploma and a small grouping of gumpaste flowers in the school colors.

Tartlets: Lemon Cream & Fresh Fruit

I have been posting so many cakes lately, that I think it's time for some pastries. Here is a shot of our single serving tarts. The tarts on the bottom feature a pate sucre sugar cookie crust with vanilla bean pastry cream and fresh fruit. The tarts on the top also have a pate sucre sugar cookie crust only with a pleasing tart, yet sweet, lemon curd and a quenelle of whipped cream. Honestly, the perfect ending to any meal.

Penguin Cake

Penguins have been popping up a lot here at The Artisan Kitchen. This Rico Penguin cake from the movie Madagascar was created for a 1st birthday in Acushnet, Massachusetts. The igloo cake frosted in buttercream was the little guys smash cake! We included Rico's favorite accompaniment: dynamite, as well as a small iceberg.

The cake was devilish chocolate with vanilla buttercream.

This basketball cake was delivered to Waterfront Grille in Downtown New Bedford Massachusetts. The basketball going through the hoop design, was created for a rehearsal dinner. The bride and groom both loved basketball and the bride's parents thought that this cake would strike accord with them. We added their weddign date 12-31-08 (New Year's Eve) onto the top of the basketball.

Congratulations!

Barn Cake

This barn cake was delivered to New Bedford, Massachusetts for a 3rd birthday party. Horses, ducks, cows and pigs were some of the animals living on the "edible farm". A fun fence surrounded the bottom cake, we hand shingled the roof in tiny fodant circles. A pile of hay, duck pond complete with reeds, and classic barn doors completed the design. The cake flavor was alternating layers of chocolate and vanilla.

Oldies but Goodies

Here are some cakes from past years. Some are classic buttercream cakes with hods to the 1950's - 1970's. Others are fun designed focused around the seashore, sea shells
1)Small cupcake tier display on our small cupcake stand, with edible organic flower blossoms
2)Classic buttercream cake with real seashells and classic piping

Fire & Ice: The Snow Ball

Philantropy has always been important here at The Artisan Kitchen. A few weeks ago we took part in providing a four tier cupcake display with a top cake for The Snow Ball at Sky Room in New Bedford Massachusetts. A gift certificate was also auctioned off at the event, congratulations to the winner from Marion, Massachusetts!

Take a look at the cake and cupcakes! A fire and ice theme with red, white and pale teal were the colors used. A three loop bow with a little bling in the center made this cake sparkle. Small snowflakes with pearl and silver dust lent well to the Snow Ball theme. The cupcakes were red velvet with vanilla buttercream.

Sports Themed Baby Shower

The mother of the soon-to-be-mom ordered these sports themed cupcakes for her daugher's shower. We created individual gumpaste coins with a basketweave impression on each they were then topped with golf clubs, golf balls, baseballs, baseball bats and footballs. Tiny polka dots also made there way onto the plaques.

The color scheme was navy blue, baby blue and brown and we incporated The cupcakes included Red Velvet with Strawberry Buttercream, Devilish Chocolate with Truffle Filling & Vanilla Buttercream, and finally Vanilla Butter Cake with Vanilla Buttercream.

The cupcakes were placed on our medium size cupcake stand which holds 50-70 cupcakes.

Monograms and Cupcakes

Monograms are a fun way to add a personalized touch to any cake. We created this cupcake stand with a top cake for the daughter of the birthday girl. For the big "6" "0" birthday we created a cake design based off of the Swarovski crystal monogram "M" cake topper as well as the striped ribbon chosen by the florist. The cupcakes were decorated in gumpaste coins with a "60" inscibed on the top as well as fanicful daisies with chartreuse leaves. We also included our signature cake card which indicated the flavors of the cake and cupcakes with a "cupcake key" for guests. This display was set up and delivered at Waterfront Grille on the working waterfront in New Bedford, MA

Baby Showers for Baby Girls & Boys

Babies, babies, babies! Lately we've had a whole boatload of baby shower cake orders and here are a few of the designs. The color schemes have been pink or blue with truffle brown and white. Sailboats, baby booties, daisies, and stripes have been the resounding theme.

Table Cakes- Edible Centerpieces

A huge trend we're seeing are Table Cakes - basically edible centerpieces! Today we sculpted 14 cakes with peridot, truffle, latte, blue lavender and champage colors. Each cake had a ribbon rose topper along with polka dots and a simple rope border. As I loaded the cakes into the van I took this first picture- the cakes are lined up like little soldiers ready for their trip to the reception site: Independence Harbor in Assonet, MA. The cakes were alternating layers of chocolate and vanilla with raspberry marmalade and chocolate truffle filling.

The Marine & His Bride

We were touched to be able to create a elegantly patriotic wedding cake for a marine and his bride. The wedding colors were red, white and blue but the bride wanted something elegant with her favorite flowers: calla lillies. As I sketched cakes for Erin, I came up with the idea of fondant draping to look like a wedding dress along with silver bow loops, white calla lillies and blue lily of the valley to bring the patriotic theme together. She loved the sketch and here is the final cake. The topper was a dancing bride and Marine. We hand painted a stripe down the pant leg of the groom to indicate his rank.

The cake was altnernating layers of devilish chocolate and vanilla butter cake with vanilla buttercream and chocolate ganache filling.
Best of Luck!

Calla Lillies, Bows, and Polka Dots

This bridal shower cake was created in the bride's favorite colors: yellow and lime green. Her favorite flower: calla lillies were also brought into the design. The three-loop bow is a great addition to any cake whether a bridal shower, baby shower or birthday. The cake is vanilla with vanilla buttercream. Best Wishes Grace!

Avant-garde Nutcracker Doll Cake

Our friend and photographer Corinna Raznikov asked us to create her daughter's birthday cake. The theme of the party was Cats & The Nutcracker but in an avant-garde style.

Corinna wanted a Barbie doll cake but minus Barbie. The doll head was replaced with a tabby cat and the dress was red and pink to match the party decor with lots of ruffles and bow.

Happy Birthday Josephine!

Wedding Cake Demo @ The Bookstall

Mimi Putnam, of The Bookstall in Marion, MA, was kind to ask us to setup a wedding cake decorating demo at her adorable shop right on Sippican Harbor. Here are two of the four cakes that we had on display and later devoured!

The three tiered cake is wrapped in pink satin ribbon with a handmade gumpaste magnolia dusted in pale yellow and chartreuse with tiny lily of the valley. This cake features a double layer center tier which gives a modern flair to a simply stated cake. Our friend Sarah called it the "Southern Bell Cake"! The cake inside the beautifully smooth fondant was red velvet cake with vanilla buttercream.

The second is a top cake for our cupcake stands decorated with piping reminiscent of paisley with tiny teal rice paper butterflies. This pretty cake is perfect for a little girl, sweet 16 or even a bridal shower. We can even add a couple of booties on top for a baby shower.

To satisfy everyone's sweet tooth we brought along a devilish chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream and fresh raspberries which we call "Pink Polka Dot Cake" along with vanilla butter cupcakes and lemon cupcakes-- YUM!

Thank you, Mimi, for a successful event!

Whimsical Flowers

We had a blast with this fun and fanciful two tiered birthday cake, made especially for the owner of Acushnet Flower Shop in Acushnet, MA. What a great cake this would make for the center of each table at any wedding. This cake was alternating layers of red velvet and vanilla butter cake with vanilla buttercream frosting and filling. Calla lillies, daisies, sunflowers, ribbon roses, buds and leaves made the perfect topper.

Slot Machine Cake

For all gamblers out there-- we created this slot machine cake in the favorite colors of the birthday girl-- purple! The client was from Long Island NY but we delivered the cake to Tauton, MA.

We had such a blast making cherry and bar ornaments for the front of the cake along with a 3-D handle. We hope the cake hit the jackpot for this 50th birthday party!

The cake included vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and vanilla cake with chocolate truffle filling.

Heineken Bottle Cap Cake

This bottle cap cake was created for a 21st birthday. We replicated a Heineken Beer Bottle Cap, the cake served 20 people in a tasty but simple vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream frosting. Inscribed in the center near the red star was "Happy Birthday Eric". What a fun 21st birthday cake for a young man!

MG Antique Car Cake

We created this sculpted antique MG car cake for a college student in Boston who was traveling to her hometown in New Jersey for her dad's 60th birthday. We were sure to include all of the details including his racing number "43", the front grill and lights as well as the very disctinct windshield and windows. We placed the car on a cobblestone brick colored "driveway". We're sure this is the first time her dad will be willing to "slice into" his favorite toy! The cake flavor was red velvet with vanilla buttercream.

Here is what they had to say about the cake:
Hi Meredith,
I just wanted to thank you so much for creating the MG cake. My dad absolutely loved it!! He got a kick out of the idea, and it was so realistic that he wouldn't let us put a candle anywhere near it...he didn't want to think about his car being set on fire, cake or not. We all thought the inside was delicious too! Thanks again!
