The Artisan Kitchen's Cake @ Garden of Cakes, Boston Flower Show 2010

Our cake made it to the Boston Flower Show at the Seaport World Trade Center today. Although the rain caused an two and a half hour traffic jam, our cake is safely on display along with 11 other cake designers from around New England.

We must have gone through 40 different design ideas from birds and a nest to branches with small blossoms to an applique design and even a hand painted woodgrain "faux-bois" design. But in the end Jody worked her magic with a classic New England Spring Garden Theme, it was the Garden of Cakes! With all tolled over 20 hours of love, handpainting and sculpting of our completely edible garden adornments on the top of the cake was put into this design. Thank goodness the rain didn't stop us from getting to Boston!

Here is Jody our oh-so-talented artist with our cake in Boston:

A full view of our four tiered garden and a close up of the hand painted garden scene....and finally our Garden Cake Topper: tiny sugar adornments from a garden in bloom: a flower box, a wellie boot and even a trowel and bucket.....

We chose this particular design because we are a small bakery set in the pine trees and stonewalls of the woodland and country setting of the South Coast of Massachusetts, we are lucky to open our windows and hear the birds and look at our beautiful gardens on the property and our cake design reflects that!

A few other cake designers asked if the design was airbrushed, and absolutely not, this is handpainted in food coloring with a "OOO" and "00" brush!

Whimsical & Sculpted: First Flowery Birthday

This two tiered cake was created for a first birthday party in Taunton Massachusetts. We created large daisies on tall stems and fun flowers buds to create a neat 3-d design! The two tiers were decorated with polka dots and stripes in lime green, kelly green, hot pink, and dark chocolate brown.

A three dimensional "1" stands on top of the top tier for the birthday girl!

We delivered this cake to a private residence in Kingston, Massachusetts

Purple Peacock & Bright Hibiscus Cake

We created this two tier fondant, square, asymetrical cake for a birthday party this weekend in Marion, Massachusetts.

We created the peacock out of sugarpaste who's tail flowed from the top tier down the side of each cake. Bright pink and orange hibiscus flowers were placed in small groupings on each cake along with ivy, which trailed down the back edge of the cake.

The cake flavor included alternating layers of chocolate and vanilla cake with a vanilla buttercream filling.

Tinkerbelle Themed 4th Birthday

Fairy dust, mushrooms, whimsical flowers and leaves adorned this two tiered Tinkbelle themed 4th birthday cake.

Each year we create a spectacular cake for Ava- and this year she was able to choose her own theme-- Tinkerbelle! Jodi (our resident artist) created the mushrooms, daisies, and ribbon roses as well as trays and trays of leaves to cover the cake. My favorite part was the bow- a simple two loop classic bow in a pale lavendar.

Actually my most favorite part of the cake was Ava's individual cake- I think it would make a great topper for a cupcake stand with mushroom and daisy cupcakes below-- watch for that on the blog soon- I think we'll make a sample up for the studio!

Laptop Computer Cake

We created this 3-D laptop computer cake for a 70th birthday party. The granddaughter of the birthday boy is from California and ordered the cake as a surprise for her grandfather who loves to play solitare on his new laptop!

We personalized this computer cake with a "PaPa" logo and we added a DVD player and inputs and a full keyboard. The screen included an "Incoming Message" from Danielle, "Happy Birthday Papa" with small envelopes and stars.

The cake flavor- his favorite- vanilla cake with chocolate mousse filling.

We are thrilled to have made a new friend, Susan Asaro. She is a talented local photographer, from Wareham Massachusetts, her portraits are exquisite. Take a look at the outstanding pictures she took for us of a pretty blue and brown baby shower cake we made for her daughter's shower. Thanks Susan!
