100th Birthday & 101st Birthday Cake @ Sippican Nursing Home

Last year we were asked to create a special birthday cake for Martha who was turning 100! Here is her handpainted seashore cake complete with adirondack chair and skiff. A few lingering clouds spell our "100"....

Martha's 101st birthday cake was a little more fun....a Scrabble board!

Happy 101st Martha!

Green Baby Shower @ Sippican Cafe, Marion Massachusetts

We created these 'green' themed baby shower cupcakes with hyacinths, frogs, ferns and green frosting.

Handmade sugar frogs adorned the top of cupcakes, while hand painted fern coins with fluted edges covered other cupcakes, and small white hyacinth flowers topped other cupcakes.

This stand was created for an intimate baby shower at the tasty breakfast, lunch and dinner spot: Sippican Cafe in nearby Marion, MA

Wedding Cupcakes @ Independence Harbor, Assonet, Massachusetts

Wedding cupcakes are little cakes meant to be eaten, this is not to be said that cake is not to be eaten, but for some reason cupcakes scream, "Eat Me!" which is why I really prefer them for any wedding!

These little cakes inluded toppers of hand made sugarpaste calla lillies colored individually in fall tones: cranberry, orange burst, and ivory.

Flavors included: lemon cake with vanilla buttercream, chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream and vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream. We included three distinct toppers to indicate to guests the different flavors. One the cake table we included a card this reads...."Vanilla butter cupcakes with chocolate ganache buttercream, white calla lilly" and so on.

An Evening at Great Hill: Farm to Table Dinner

We are fortunate enough to be involved in supporting many charitable causes in South Eastern Massachusetts- but the Farm To Table Dinner is one of our favorites which supports SEMAP (South Eastern Massachusetts Agricultural Partnership). Although the Buzzard's Bay winds blew and the unseasonable rain sheeted sideways into the tent, we enjoyed every moment of the evening, held at Great Hill Farm in Marion Massachusetts.

This photo courtesy of Chad Michael Peters, the official photographer of the 2009 Farm to Table Dinner, features our Herb & Roasted Potato Loaf served at each table. We also prepared an Arruda's Dairy Panna Cotta Parfait with Goat's Milk Strawberry Yogurt Bavarian and Orange- Cervelli's Roasted Strawberry Gelee for dessert, one of our best customers commented--"I was licking the cup, but my husband told me to stop!"

Check out How on Earth: The Store to purchase our Panna Cotta Parfaits and Herb & Roasted Potato Bread on Fridays & Saturdays.

Twins Polka Dots Birthday Cake

We created these two birthday cakes for twins: a boy and a girl. One is a fan or chocolate cake, the other of vanilla. The mom who ordered the two cakes asked if they could match in style but have one in teals and blues and the other in girlie colors. Polka dots are a great design for all ages! The cakes were frosted in our Bakery Style Icing a much sweeter kid-friendly icing it is much much sweeter than our traditional Italian buttercream

Graduation Cakes

We created these two graduation cakes for a client who was receiving her Master's degree and graduating from Northeastern University. Her mom wanted to incorporate her favorite quote along with the school's logo, so we decided on two cakes. The cakes traveled north of boston to newton, ma for the surprise party. Congratulations Cristina!

Graduation cakes can be created in a variety of colors and styles. Our most popular has a gumpaste diploma and a small grouping of gumpaste flowers in the school colors.

Tartlets: Lemon Cream & Fresh Fruit

I have been posting so many cakes lately, that I think it's time for some pastries. Here is a shot of our single serving tarts. The tarts on the bottom feature a pate sucre sugar cookie crust with vanilla bean pastry cream and fresh fruit. The tarts on the top also have a pate sucre sugar cookie crust only with a pleasing tart, yet sweet, lemon curd and a quenelle of whipped cream. Honestly, the perfect ending to any meal.

Oldies but Goodies

Here are some cakes from past years. Some are classic buttercream cakes with hods to the 1950's - 1970's. Others are fun designed focused around the seashore, sea shells
1)Small cupcake tier display on our small cupcake stand, with edible organic flower blossoms
2)Classic buttercream cake with real seashells and classic piping
3)Buttercream design in chartreuse green with fun fondant flowers with a tropical flair
