Cake Design & Consultation

Cake designs are very personal. I always tell brides and other clients, "You may have a vision, but until you and I sketch it out I can not see into your mind".
Miscommunications have happened and we've come up with a few easy ways to avoid them.
1)We ask that all customers come in for a sketch session.
1A) If you cannot make it in to see me, we require customers to choose a standard cake from our website, not someone elses website.
This avoids any miscommunication and allows our customers to know what they'll be getting from the beginning.
I also believe that artist and designer has strengths and weaknesses, and sometimes another designer may be able to do something that I cannot do. Just think, Jackson Pollock wouldn't have painted the Mona Lisa. That said: every artist in every medium has boundaries.

Eighteen (18) Wheeler Cake with Bass Boat Cake
Heather is a great customer of ours, we love her creativity, her attention to detail and her love of
C-A-K-E!
Her brothers' BIG birthday was approaching and she had this idea for a cake. I swear you'll never guess-- an Eighteen Wheeler Truck pulling a Bass Boat- YES all out of cake!
Enlightened, inspired, and up for the challenge I took Heather's sketches and went to work. We were in for a long and heavy haul (no pun intended).
Along the way the cake took shape with the addition of a gumpaste duck and pond, Walt Disney World advertisements on the truck, Lake George Minnie-Ha-Ha ads and even an ad for Cabella's featuring duck and deer hunting gear.
The cake was delivered to Cathay Temple in Mattapoisett, MA and successfully displayed for all to see and of course, eat!

CupCakes

These custom cupcakes with gumpaste pink and white daisies, baby peapods, and "It's a girl" plaques were for a baby shower in Mattapoisett, MA. Assorted chocolate and vanilla cupcakes with Italian vanilla buttercream frosting were on the menu. The peapods are a great cupcake topper for twins, baby boys and baby girls.

The Artisan Kitchen

First Birthdays and Baby Showers have been the resounding theme in our fun and whimsical cake world. Dana has been kneading gumpaste and fondant like a mad-man lately, and we've been sculpting and wiring shamrocks, curls, and pearls.
Here is St. Patrick's Day theme first birthday cake delivered to a home in Acushnet, MA! Many shades of brights greens, oranges, reds, and blues covered his fun buttercream cake while bouncy green shamrocks waved in the breeze. We covered the table in bright polka dots to tie it all together. Aidan also had a smash cake covered in polka dots and stripes.
This buttercream cake design is the most popular for our customers who aren't the biggest fan of fondant, but still want a colotful, fun design. I love this design as it can be easily converted for a little girl's first birthday cake, in all colors of pink with a hearts floating about.

The Cake Question: You Asked, We Answered

When I started baking cakes, I had this misconception that our customers wanted cakes that were totally different than other bakeries in Southeastern Massachusetts. However, they wanted something different on the OUTSIDE, not the INSIDE.

So, after many months of pondering and trying to figure out HOW ON EARTH to make our cakes as moist as a, well I hate to say it, MIX (whew, that's a scary word for me) we've finally accomplished our goal. I'm not going to give away my secrets, but you'll notice how deliciously moist our cakes are!! Even I admit, they taste ssoooo much better.

Thanks to some recipe testing, my very honest taste tester (sometimes too honest) my father, and a few little European and American home cook tricks, we've got it.

If you're wondering whether we got it right or not, mention that you saw this post and we'll give you a sample box of cupcakes free of charge!
